A Brief Introduction to Fashion
Fashion is a unique form of personal autonomy and self-awareness at a certain time and place and at a certain context, of garments, footwear, makeup, hairstyling, body postures, and accessories. The word means a style defined as what is fashionable by the fashion industry. It is usually associated with a trend that starts one year and remains in fashion the next year (in case of women’s fashion). However, the term can also mean something different. For example, in certain situations, it may refer to dressing in an attitude that is highly suggestive of hip hop or urban culture.
A fashionable person is not necessarily one who dresses in an extreme form. On the contrary, a fashionable dress is considered to be an item of good taste, an item of comfort, a status symbol, or a fashion statement, depending on how it is worn. Thus, a stylish dress might be a blouse with high heels, a skirt with high heels, or even a t-shirt with large, stylized block lettering that spells out a word or phrase. Likewise, a fashionable hairstyle may be an extension of the fashion itself, or it may be a hairstyle that is highly symbolic of a certain belief or opinion.
Fashionable clothes are those clothes that make you feel comfortable and confident in your own skin, or at least the way you perceive yourself. Fashion is a very interesting concept because it varies so much from year to year. For instance, in one year it might be extremely trendy to wear a plunging neckline or a revealing skirt; while, in the next year, it might still be deemed to be in style. It seems that fashion changes so rapidly that one year you can be wearing the latest fashion trends and the next, you might find yourself wearing the same old pair of jeans you wore four years ago.
