Basically, poker is a betting game. The goal is to make the best hand possible. Depending on the game rules, players place bets based on the value of their hand. The player with the best hand wins the pot.
The main types of Poker are Draw Poker and Stud Poker. In both of these games, the cards are dealt face down. The cards are numbered from one to fifty-two. In Stud Poker, some of the cards are dealt face up as the betting progresses.
In most games, the players are given the opportunity to choose whether to call, raise or fold. If a player calls, he or she must put in the same amount of chips as the previous player. If a player raises, the bet will be increased.
A player may also bluff. A bluff is an attempt to entice another player into making a bet. The player bluffing has a good idea of his or her own hand. Typically, a bluff will be a raised bet and the player must use at least one card from his or her hand.
If a player folds, he or she loses all of the chips in the pot. If a player bluffs, he or she has a good idea of his or her hand and can bet with only one card.
A flush is a hand that contains five cards of the same suit. A full house is a hand that contains three cards of a single rank and two cards of another rank.
