What About Life?
The topic of about life is very broad and the subject matter encompasses so many different areas and topics. It can be said that a person who does not know about life is like a man who does not understand the necessity of clothes, shoes, food, shelter, and health care. Life is a very important feature that separates living organisms that have living biological processes, including self-sustenance and signaling processes, from those which do not, because even these living organisms have stopped having these biological processes and therefore are classed as inanimate. Some say that life is but a fact of nature; some say that it is an abstract idea; while a few say that death is the end of life as we know it and not something to fear.
Whatever the view of life is that a person has, the one thing that cannot be denied is the fact that it is indeed a very complex phenomenon. There are many theories and ideas on how life comes into being. Many scientists have postulated different theories on the emergence of life. A person interested in understanding about life must first establish his/her point of view regarding what he/she wants to know.
A person interested in learning about the evolution of living systems must first establish his/her point of view regarding where life originated and evolved, and how it relates to present day living systems. The type of question one asks before starting a research project depends on what the desired answer will be. One type of answer about life is given by Charles Darwin’s theory of evolution. The other type of answer about life is provided by an idea supplied by microbiologist Samuel Hahnemann.
